Welcome!

The Appalachia Cultural Arts Council, Inc. founded The Appalachia Cultural Arts Center as a vehicle to foster commitment to the future, to economic development, and to the cultural pride of the Town of Appalachia, the surrounding communities, and their residents.

A Brief History: The Appalachia Cultural Arts Center

  • The Town of Appalachia was founded in 1906
  • The area's economic expansions and depressions followed the highs and lows of the coal industry's own booms and busts.
  • The purpose of the center is to revitalize the souls and spirits of a community and her people through the use of the arts and humanities.
  • The center provides an avenue for the exploration of ideas, values, inspirations, and hopes of a community through the arts.
  • The Appalachia Cultural Arts Council, Inc. was officially incorporated on June 6, 1995.
  • The Appalachia Cultural Arts Center is located in the former "M.D. Collier Furniture Store"  on Main Street in historic downtown Appalachia, Virginia.
  • The center structure was purchase by the Town of Appalachia in May of 1997.
  • Adjacent to the Appalachia Cultural Arts Center is an amphitheater for outdoor performances.
